Memorial Ridge

Maintenance of Memorial Ridge site has been ongoing. Volunteers acquired and restored a second canoe for placement of plaques and the canoe has been taken up to the ridge. Volunteers worked to clear the trail and shoreline of debris recently and have been asked to attend this coming Sunday, August 9th to continue in those efforts during discussions in this week's annual general meeting. Volunteers have also been asked to attend at the ridge with a rock to assist in preparing for the canoe to be mounted.

A tentative date for a memorial gathering on the ridge is schedule for Sunday August 16th and will be confirmed through email. It is dependent on weather and progress with mounting the canoe and 15 new plaques.

Annual River Clean up

In 2026, the annual river clean up took place on Saturday July 11th. It was a great day. Not only did the weather co-operate but many volunteers attended and worked tirelessly to unload, sort and eradicate the garbage that came in. With the assistance of Hartley Bay Marina and their equipment, the job was complete in good time. A social gathering with barbeque and refreshments followed.

Annual General Meeting

In 2026, the annual general meeting took place on Wednesday August 5th at French River Lodge. Many thanks for hosting once again. Minutes are currently being drafted and will be distributed soon via email. During the 2026 annual meeting for approval. Every effort will be made to have the meeting on the first Wednesday of August going forward so that members can be prepared to attend, as requested.

Stewardship Youth Program

We had requested the assistance of the Stewardship Youth Program through the MNRF where Junior Rangers attend to assist with projects on the river. They did not attend to help with the work on the trail to the ridge nor the shore clean up that was planned however, they did assist with a Fire Smart project on Hartley Bay Road. Volunteers have taken it upon themselves to request funding from the government to clear a section of the road of dead trees and underbrush in order to establish a safe exit from Hartley Bay in the event of a local fire. The work to remove the trees and underbrush is currently out for tender.
